Bring the attached flyer with a voucher to the store and tell the cashier you are here for the OLQM Book Fair.  Can't make it to the store? or your out of town family wants to buy books? Academy Transition Update

We are very grateful to all the parents who made time in their busy schedules to attend the recent Parent/Academy Board Meeting. The governance model for the academy was explained and members of our Board of Directors were introduced. Rules of the Academy structure prohibit parents from sitting on the Board of Directors. However, parents are strongly encouraged to play an active role in the academy, it's goal setting and program planning by serving on sub-committees for three of the four central Board committees: Student Life, Institutional Development and Facilities. Parents are not permitted to serve on the Finance Committee.

We understand that many families are keenly interested in the transition to an academy, but were unable to attend the meeting. The power point presentation from the meeting is posted under "Academy Information", as have the notes from the meeting, which were recorded and submitted by Diana Castenada (K2 Parent)

A sub-committee interest form will be sent home early next week. Please consider taking the opportunity to be a valuable contributor to the foundation of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Academy and to your child's educational environment.

Class of 2015 Leaves the Court

The Class of 2015 girls’ basketball team at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School ended their time playing at Martyrs with a playoff loss to St. Kevin’s. The girls fell behind early against a relentless press, trailing by as much as 16 points in the first half.  Martyrs was able to cut the lead to 6 points in the fourth quarter before losing to the team that would go on to win the Brooklyn Queens championship.
The girls had a remarkable run in the six years that they represented our school in CYO basketball. This was a team that rarely lost their poise or focus.  They played hard and never quit.  Led by a determined point guard, a sharpshooter from Rockaway and a left handed center with a big smile, the girls earned a reputation as a team that other teams didn’t want to play.  They played in big gyms with boisterous crowds all over Brooklyn and Queens and usually won, while being respectful of their opponents at the same time.

The girls were Brooklyn Queens CYO Diocesan finalist three years in a row, and captured the CYO Diocesan Championship in February of 2013 with a double overtime win over St. Patrick’s of Brooklyn.  We wish the girls the best as they move on to high school, confident that they will be successful in whatever endeavors they undertake. They will be missed.

The girls would like to thank Bishop Sanchez, Mrs. Zuschlag and Mrs. Smith in the After School Program for all their support.

OLQM 7th Grade Girls Win TMLA Academic Bowl

OLQM has been sending a team of girls to The Mary Louis Academy Academic Bowl since it inception 5 years ago.  OLQM's teams have always been strong contenders in both the Academic Bowl and the Math Competition. This year our team came in 1st Place.  We are very proud of our girls and thank The Mary Louis Academy for the opportunity.

Congratulations to the girls, their parents and their teachers!

Option C Email and Alert System

Recently two notifications were sent out through the Option C parent alert system. If you did not receive an email notification of the weather related NUT day and/or a 9/15/13 email indicating a change in our gr. 5 teacher it is because there is not an email address listed on your Option C account or you have not selected email as an emergency notification preference. This year most mass emails will be sent through Option C, rather than echalk (this system). We are trying to move away from echalk to save costs, and because it is our diocesan required attendance and academic system. Therefore, it is the one system all registered families are entered into. Although our school office inputs mandatory information we do not put in secondary information or determine if you want email, voice and/or text notifications. Families are strongly encouraged to select email as a preference. Keep in mind that texts are limited to a number of characters and voice messages rely on your access to the phone number(s) listed. You may select as many, or as few, alert preferences as you wish. Directions on the Option C system may be viewed by selecting Option C Information on the left side of the echalk home screen. If you have designated an email account as a preference and are still not getting the emails, please check your spam folder.

Just one more way for us to stay connected!
